The African bullfrog, also known as the giant bullfrog or the South African burrowing frog, is a species of frog in the family Pyxicephalidae. It is also known as the pixie frog due to its scientific name.

African bullfrogs are known to be aggressive and territorial, especially males fighting for breeding dominance. They have a powerful bite and may inflate their bodies to appear larger or puff up when frightened or angry. Despite their aggression, they can also be devoted fathers, protecting their young while sometimes mistakenly eating their own tadpoles.
African bullfrogs vary significantly in size by sex, with males growing to about 9-10 inches (23-25.5 cm) in length and weighing over 2 pounds (0.9 kg), sometimes reaching 4 pounds (1.8 kg). Females are much smaller, around 4-6 inches (10-15 cm) long and weighing roughly half as much.
